Remembering the ANZACs

This week, Room 12 students have been learning about what ANZAC DAY means to us. What we did: * Listened to Miss S explain what the word ANZAC stands for * Used our class globe to find New Zealand, Australia and some of the places that soldiers travelled to when they went away from their families to keep our country safe * Watched a short movie clip about World War I * Used the pictures from the movie to brainstorm ideas about war, solving problems and what happens when people cannot work as a team to solve a problem * Shared ideas about why we are lucky to live in New Zealand where we can learn and play safely in our environment * Listened to music from the World War I days * Listened to Miss S read the big book'Dawn Parade' * Created a piece of art work about the ANZACs Please look for the art we have created when you return from your holidays. Take care of each other, wear your seatbelts in the car, cross the road with an adult and swim (if it is still warm enough) between the flags.
