We came to school dressed in our house colours and ready to run!

The sun was shining, parents and caregivers came to watch us, people were cheering

Ronald McDonald visits Sunnyhills!

Sunnyhills was very lucky to have a visit from Ronald McDonald.
He came to talk us about being safe around roads and in the car.
He was very funny!

Ronald told us how he lost his red and white, medium striped, made to measure sock!
So Ronald went looking for it on his way to Sunnyhills School.

He told us to look our for 'sneaky driveways'.
We need to STOP, LOOK AND LISTEN before we cross the driveway.

Then Ronald showed us how to cross at the crossing.

Katie came to show us how the Sunnyhills Road Patrol help to keep us safe
and cross the road.

Then Ronald showed us how to cross at the crossing with Katie's help.

And lastly, Ronald found his red and white, medium striped, made to measure sock
Can you guess where it was...?

Thanks Ronald for showing us how to walk on the footpath and cross the road safely.
We are now Roadwise!

:Literacy Week Mystery: Slinky Malinki- Up to Mischief!!

Room 12 arrived at school 2 Friday's ago to find their enormous grey plane had disappeared... we looked everywhere. We asked the question:
WHERE HAS OUR PLANE GONE?? Then we received this message: Miaow Children and Teachers at Sunnyhills School! I’m Slinky Malinky, (a rapscallion cat!) By day I am just like any ordinary cat but at night I am wicked and fiendish and sly I leap over walls and I prowl and pry All over school I have pilfered and pillaged from classrooms and corridors your teacher’s belongings I’ve pulled them and dragged them and heaved them until I reached the music room high on the...concrete Take yourself off to the window to see If your belongings are sitting there one morning this week Make sure that your teacher can identify the item I stole So that your classroom will once again be whole So we went to investigate
No luck! Our plane was not there on Monday....but on Tuesday, Milana and her mother visited Slinky's window again and said they had seen our plane. So we went to have a look:
We wrote a class email and sent it to Slinky: Ni hao Slinky Malinky We are Room 12 Sunnyhills School. Last week our big and grey toy jet plane went missing. It was lost!! We felt very sad. We looked all around our classroom but we couldn't find it. Miss S our teacher sent an email to all of Sunnyhills School. Yesterday you sent us a message so we went down to the music room, but we couldn't find it : ( This mornning Milana one of the people from our class took her mummy down and they found our jet plane in the music room. This morning the whole class went down and we found our jet plane. Slinky Malinky stop taking our things. If you want to use our things please ask us first and remember your manners. Thankyou for listening to us. From: Room 12 and Miss S and Mrs Norton : We think that Slinky got the message because he left us a signed paw message on our whiteboard. Thanks Slinky!!

All About Our School

Room 12 has been using the Inquiry process to learn about Sunnyhills School. Over the last 3 weeks, we have been going on orientation walks during fitness time and having discussions about the different people and places we visited. When we brainstormed our ideas back in class, we found out that we could name and talk about the different places including the: office, junior courtyard, boat playground, tree island, field sign, lunch room, hall, sandpit and junior playground. We discovered that we didn't know the names of people we might find around our school. We decided to find out the answer to the following question: Who are the people around our school? Room 12 visited the office on Week 3 Tuesday. On our way to the office, we saw Mr Leslie our school caretaker getting the field prepared. When we arrived at the office we saw Mrs Driver our school principal, Mrs Steel our deputy principal (Mrs Driver's helper), Mrs Anderson and Mrs Gibbens who are always busy making sure we are all here safely and notices go home to our parents. When we visited the library we met the lovely Mrs Jeans who gets the library organised and looks after all the ICT equipment in the school. Room 12 will continue to learn about the large number of people who are around our school that help us.

Self Portraits- Take 2

We did our first lot of portraits when we first visited Room 12 at a pre entry visit or at the start of this year. It has taken us 4 weeks of real careful work, but now we have finally finished our second attempt at Visual Art-self portraits. We have been learning to use a range of different materials to complete a portrait of ourselves in our school uniforms. First we had to think about and choose the correct paint colour for our skin. Then we had to think about using the whole space. We held our paintbrushes like a pencil.
Then we added the colour of our uniform. Next we used paper to create our hair. Miss S showed us how to make curls using the scissors. Some of us had to work with Mrs Lee to add the brown colour to our hair because there was no brown paper. We used PVA to stick the paper on. It was very tricky and the glue stuck to our fingers!
Finally we worked with Miss S and Mrs Lee to add the parts of our face. We used pastel.... it was really tricky because it could smudge if we worked too fast! So we did our best because Miss S said that amazing artist's work takes a looooonnnnggg time!
Our portraits are not all the same, because we are special and unique individuals. We think that we are awesome artists. What do you think??
